Farewell Ms Winfrey...

Along with many others, I watched final episode of the "Oprah Winfrey Show"
today. I am not going to pretend that I have been a faithful viewer for the past 25 years. I've watched it when the guests or the topics interested me and others time I changed the channel or deleted it from my TiVo playlist. But I did watch the majority of this "Farewell Season" and I even TiVo the new show "Oprah: Behind The Scenes " on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). But am I a true to life Oprah fanatic? The answer is no. What I am is a Black woman who admires and appreciates the journey of another Black woman. A woman who is proud and excited by the accomplishments Oprah Winfrey has made. She is a philanthropist, an educator, a savvy and smart business woman, an American icon, a magazine publisher, movie producer, etc, etc and most importantly, A CHILD OF GOD.

On today's episode, she was very clear about her relationship with GOD and openly gave thanks to HIM for all the blessings that have come her way. Today's show was just Oprah... no guests, no "Favorite Things"... just Oprah sharing life lessons and words of wisdom. Words that needed to be spoken. Lessons that I will carry with me along my own journey.

This blog post tonight will not be a poem in tribute to Oprah. I didn't write one. The amazingly talented and brilliant Maya Angelou already did. Instead in this post, I want to share some of Oprah's words with you so you can see them written.... so they can be made plain.... so perhaps they can take root in your soul and take up residence in your heart. They are honest. They are true.

Thank you Ms Winfrey for spending the last 25 years with us. For teaching us through your actions and for sharing your wisdom. And as Tyler Perry beautifully stated, for "pushing your destiny to it's boundaries with the wind of GOD at your back."
You will be missed.

Until We Meet Again..
(Lessons from Oprah)

  • Your calling lights you up and lets you know that you are exactly where you are suppose to be, doing exactly what you should be.
  • You have to know what sparks the light in you, so you, in your own way, can illuminate the world.
  • You must feel worthy enough to own the life you have been created for.
  • You being alive makes worthiness your birthright.
  • Be aware of the energy you bring into another person's space.
  • Start embracing the life that is calling you and use your life to serve the world.
  • You are enough just as you are.
